Visual Art Program at NYMS
Visual Art units support progress toward the Maine Learning Results. Fourth and fifth graders develop creative and critical thinking skills in Art which will help prepare them to make choices in a world where there are not always standard answers.
Fall 2007
Grade 4 students are working on quilt tiles.
Grade 5 students are working on Chinese brush painting.
Please remind students to wear play clothes or dark colors
on the day they have art class.
Visual Art Assessment
The assessment system is standards based. After each major project or unit, assessments are completed to determine progress towards Maine Learning Results. Quizzes and other instruments may
also be used. There are five to seven units per year. Summative assessments for Allied Arts learning (Visual Art, Music and Physical Education)will be in report cards in the second and fourth quarter of the school year. Artwork is sent home after it has been evaluated and/or displayed.
If you would like to set up an appointment discuss your child’s progress in Art please contact Lynda McCann-Olson at NYMS 829-5555 x318 or email lynda_mccann-olson@msad51.org
